Hollywood heartbreak

Young love

I only managed to catch the final quarter of tonight’s Lakers-Suns Game 5 from LA, but it was still enough to both make and break my night within a matter of minutes. Down 101-98 late, Phoenix’s Jason Richardson went window shopping on a game-tying three with three seconds to go, sending my overexcited young self into a frenzy. Free basketball!, or so I thought. Heartless thug Ron Artest squashed that a timeout later by flipping Kobe Bryant’s airball home at the buzzer, giving the Lakers a 103-101 win and a 3-2 series edge.

All in all, this series is shaping up to be a lot more tremendous than I’d expected. Phoenix, which has won Games 3 and 4 in their own arena, has home court Sunday for Game 6 and should be good to send this one to Basketball Heaven, also known as Game 7. To quote my pal Tim Bentum, “Let’s see what happens!”.

By the way, in case you missed the madness, check out the clip of Artest’s walkoff here. Richardson’s bomb isn’t up on YouTube yet, but I’ll get it up tomorrow once it broadcasts itself.

(UPDATE: Richardson’s bomb can be seen here, in all its stretched out glory.)
