Gameday: Raptors-Hornets

Jose and the Raptors start a west coast swing tonight in the Big Easy

The NBA schedule-making gods hate the Raptors and we’re about to find out all about it. After opening with three of four at home, Toronto is in New Orleans tonight to start a swing of seven of eight games on the road, all against Western Conference opponents. Following the Hornets, the Raps get Dallas and San Antonio before coming home to face the Bulls. For a full preview on tonight’s matchup, check out Raptors Republic, which again features my NBA 2K10 game sim.

The key to shutting down the Hornets, of course, is putting the clamps on Chris Paul. Unfortunately, that’s not an easy task — he’ll get you one way or another either by scoring or distributing, so I guess the key is to not let him get at you both ways. Pick your poison. At his disposal is an array of shooters and one of the league’s most underrated big men, David West.

The Raptors, meanwhile, are coming off a home win over the Pistons. Of the three on the current trip, this may be the most winnable and the second best of the seven in all after the Clippers next Friday. Either way, it’s gonna get ugly the next couple weeks.
