Leafs keep on rolling, the only way they know how

Connolly with the walk-off

In a city of misfit sports teams, the Leafs may be all we have. The Monster and his crew stayed red hot tonight, picking their second straight overtime loss, this one in Buffalo. Why not take advantage of the NHL’s ridiculous ruling that gives points to a team for losing a game? (Excuse me if I sound angry — I’m still fuming from the Raptors game.)

Unlike Wednesday in Dallas, the Leafs were the ones making a late comeback this time, as Mikhail Grabovski scored a shorthanded goal in the final minute to tie the game at 2-2 and send it to overtime, where Tim Connolly won it for the Sabres with a power play goal just over a minute in. The Leafs, who also picked up a first period goal from Ian White, outshot Buffalo 16-5 in the third and 35-28 in the game.

Jonas Gustavsson made 25 saves for the Leafs, who picked up a point for the third straight game despite falling to a league-worst 1-7-3. They wrap up their current five-game road trip tomorrow in Montreal against the Canadiens, who sit seventh in the East with 12 points.

  1. And just like that, the Leafs are only 6 points out of a playoff spot!

  2. Hey, they’re Toronto’s best shot these days…
