Romero roughed up again

Another rough night for Ricky Romero

Another rough night for Ricky Romero

Forget about Ricky Romero getting Rookie of the Year. Forget about Roy Halladay winning the Cy Young. Forget about Vernon Wells picking up the MVP. Forget about Frank Thomas hitting his 600th home run in a Jays uniform. This is just getting ugly.

Romero struggled again tonight, giving up seven runs (five earned) in four-plus innings as the Jays lost their fourth straight, 10-5 to the Yankees. The rookie lost his second straight start and ran his post-All-Star Break ERA to an even 6.00. Romero gave up four runs in the first, three of which came around when Travis Snider let Hideki Matsui’s bases loaded single get under his glove and to the wall.

Toronto managed just six hits off Chad Gaudin & friends, including three by Raul Chavez and a pair by Snider. Any hopes of a comeback were dashed when A-Rod and Jorge Posada went deep in the ninth of Jason Frasor.

Roy Halladay gets the ball for the Jays tomorrow, while Joba Chamberlain and his pitch count of about 25 counter for the Yankees. Let’s see what happens!
