Well, well, well — that was quite a couple days at Rogers Centre. First Roy Halladay made his final start as a Jay Friday night, then afterward said he doesn’t think he’s going anywhere. After losing that one in extra innings, the Jays managed to blow this afternoon’s contest in extraordinary fashion, blowing an 8-0 lead before losing 10-9 in 12. Scott Downs did his B.J. Ryan act in both games, giving up two runs in the 10th inning last night and a pair of solo homers in the ninth today to send things to extras.

First, Doc: His performance last night was nothing short of what we’ve come to expect every five days for the ten years or so — he went nine innings, striking out ten and giving up one earned run, leaving a 2-2 game for Downs to let get away. After the game, in typically Halladay fashion, he downplayed the rumors, telling reporters “at this point I feel I’m going to be here” after the deadline. It’ll be a few days before we know for sure, but ESPN is reporting tonight the Phillies and the Jays are pretty deep in talks, despite Toronto’s latest proposal being shot down. Let’s see what happens!

Now, today: Well, don’t even get me started. The Jays wasted four home runs and an 8-0 lead through four, coughing up four runs in the seventh, two in the eighth and another two in the ninth, setting up Jason Bartlett’s go-ahead double in the 12th. Toronto managed to load the bases with one out in the bottom of the inning, but Aaron Hill struck out and Adam Lind grounded to second.

Tampa Bay is in for one more game, as Brett Cecil and Jeff Niemann battle tomorrow afternoon.
