Enjoy it while it lasts…

If this is how it’s gonna end, then Harry LeRoy Halladay is going out on top. With a host of scouts and MLB bigwigs (including former Jays GM and current Phillies advisor Pat Gillick) in the crowd, Doc made quick work of Boston this afternoon, using just 105 pitches to finish off David Ortiz & friends in a complete game, 3-1 win.

Halladay was especially sharp for the first time since coming off the disabled list last month, striking out seven and walking none to improve to 11-3. It was no shortage of a lovefest at Rogers Centre, and why wouldn’t it be? Who wouldn’t love Doc? Halladay was at his absolute best today, another reminder of why he’s the best in the game (or at least the pitching equivalent of Scott Rolen).

Rod Barajas drove in all three Toronto runs, two via a two-out second inning double and another on a sac fly in the sixth. Even Alexis Rios was in on the act, knocking a pair of singles and drawing a walk while making Jays fans almost forget we nearly duped the Giants into giving us Tim Lincecum for him.

So, two out of three from the Red Sox to start the second half — PLAYOFFS! Okay, maybe not. The Jays get an off-day tomorrow before the Indians come to town Tuesday for a three-gamer.
