Coming to grips with reality…

Is this the end?

Is this the end?

It pains me to say this, but it’s time I faced the facts: Roy Halladay is gone one way or another, and it makes more sense than ever to trade him right now. With this season all but written off and considering they’ve already made it clear they don’t have the means to re-sign him after next season, it’s time to cash in when the Doc’s value is high as ever. Thank you, Bob Costas, for getting me in touch with reality. With that said, I still think you’re a smartass.

It’s taken me some time to get to this point, but I’m actually starting to warm up to the idea of Halladay being traded, especially since J.P. Ricciardi & co. are insisting the team on the other end take Vernon Wells off their hands as well. Pinstripes, anyone? The Yankees, of course, are one of the teams that have certainly already come knocking, as well as the Phillies, who are likely still in the hunt even after signing Pedro Martinez earlier this week. The Rockies are another team that may enter the mix, and Halladay, a Denver native, may be willing to waive his no trade clause to go home.

It’s pretty clear the Jays are in rebuild mode, but if they’re able to pick up a few can’t-miss prospects (is there such a thing, though?) for Halladay and unload Wells’ contract in the meantime, they could speed up the process and make things pretty interesting within the next few years. Next up: Can somebody take tryhard Alex Rios off our hands? Is Tim Lincecum still available?
