The good Tallet makes another appearance

Brian Tallet, being the man

Brian Tallet, being the man

Take away Brian Tallet’s two nightmarish starts, and he’s having a pretty, pretty, pretty nice year. Aside from debacles against offensive powerhouses Kansas City and Florida, he’s a tidy 5-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 15 games (12 starts). Then again, most pitchers’ numbers look nice when you knock off their worst starts. Either way, the happy Tallet was at work tonight, shutting out Cincinnati over six innings in an eventual 7-5 win, no thanks to another shaky bullpen effort.

Tallet threw just 90 pitches and probably could’ve gone longer, which is even easier to say after Shawn Camp and Jesse Carlson coughed up a combined four runs in the seventh. Oh well, Cito will be Cito.

Scott Rolen, Rod Barajas and Marco Scutaro all homered for the Jays, who pulled into a tie with the Yankees, who lost to Atlanta, for second in the East. My mainest man Russ Adams made his first start of the season — his debut in left field — but was hitless in four at-bats. Interesting to see him start out there over Adam Lind, who DH’d, and quite a testament to how Gaston feels about Lind’s D.
