Nationals continue to shock the world

We won? Us? Shut up!

We won? Us? Shut up!

Just when I thought it couldn’t get more annoying than that loudmouth kid in Philadelphia, “the umpires” were back last night, this time making the trip to Washington to annoy all 713 fans watching in National land. If you were trying to ignore them on Sportsnet, refer to Darrin Fletcher’s comments on the morons to get my sentiments. Anyway, to make matters worse, the Jays lost to the worst team in baseball, falling 2-1 in 11 innings to Christian Guzman & company.

The Jays managed seven hits against a Washington pitching staff that has an ERA of about 8.17 this season. The Nationals’ bullpen outlasted Toronto’s, which has certainly had its share of work the past week. After using eight pitchers in the win over Philadelphia on Thursday, Cito Gaston used seven last night, with Jason Frasor finally running out of gas in the 11th.

Brett Cecil is back tonight from a stint in the minors, making his fifth career start against a Washington team that has suddenly won three straight. The Nationals counter with Ross Detweiler, the sixth overall pick in the 2007 draft, who’s 0-3 with a 5.23 ERA. Let’s see what happens!
