Downs looks B.J.-esque, though we can laugh about it now

Scott Downs, just playing around

Scott Downs, just playing around

Don’t be mistaken, Blue Jay fans — that wasn’t B.J. Ryan disguised as Scott Downs this afternoon. The usually-reliable Downs coughed up five hits and three runs in the ninth against Oakland today, though it was slightly more acceptable given the Jays led by five heading into the inning. When all was said and done, it was a 6-4 Toronto win and a 21-12 overall mark.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak for the Jays, who are still yet to lose more than two in a row this season. Just when a couple of losses on an always-dreaded West Coast swing look like they’re about to do in this team, they bounce back with 15 hits, including at least a pair by six different players. Lyle Overbay took the bat off his shoulders for the second time this week, hitting his fifth home run of the season in the second inning.

Alright, so the win leaves Toronto 2-2 on the trip with the decider in Oakland tomorrow afternoon. Brett Cecil will do the honours for the Jays, who head home to face the recently-activated Alex Roidriguez and the Yankees on Tuesday. Halladay and Allan James Burnett are set to battle — a mismatch for the ages, if you ask me.

(P.S. You suck A.J.)
