J.O., playing for Miami but secretly wishing he was still in Toronto

It’s not often a player leaves Toronto without me finding a reason to despise them (see Tracy McGrady, Vince Carter, Damon Stoudamire, Doug Christie, Antonio Davis, Zan Tabak, T.J. Ford), so I was pleasantly surprised to read some of the comments Jermaine O’Neal made to ESPN’s Marc Stein in today’s Daily Dime.

“I had a great time there,” he said of his time in Toronto. “Bryan Colangelo is unbelievable. Things just didn’t go the way we thought they would go.”

Asked why he thought his tenure with the Raptors was so short, O’Neal said, “The Toronto organization was great to me and even the city was unbelievable. The affection I’ve gotten, you would have thought that I played there for the last 13 years.”

Wow, it’s a little refreshing to hear from a player leaving Toronto that isn’t complaining about the weather, the fans, the metric system, the exchange rate, the city being too clean, etc.. Jermaine O’Neal, you will always be a Raptor in my heart, even with that crooked looking jump shot of yours.
