Junior back in Seattle

Griffey becomes injury prone...NOW!

Hope is not completely lost, Seattle sports fans. After a year in which the Sonics skipped town, the Mariners became the first team in major league history to lose 100 games with an $100m+ payroll and the Seahawks finished 4-12, Seattle residents can find relief in the signing of a 39-year-old outfielder that hit .249 last season. It’s not just any outfielder though — it’s the one and only Ken Griffey Jr.!

Alright, so Griffey’s a bit past his prime, but it’s still gotta be cool for Mariners fans to bid farewell in what figures to be another tough season. Griffey apparently was close to signing with Atlanta, which is closer to his hometown of Orlando, but ultimately chose the Mariners on an incentive and sentimental-laden one-year deal.

No word yet on whether the Mariners are in talks to bring back Jay Buhner, who hit 30 home runs and had over 100 RBIs once upon a time and has a rocket for an arm. Steinbrenner doesn’t know what the hell he’s doing! But don’t get me started on that…

  1. The people in Seattle need Griffey back. He’ll be great for the city and will make an nice combo in the OF with Ichiro if he stays healthy. Honestly, he didn’t look right in those other uniforms.

  2. Yeah, things never really worked out in Cincinnati with the injuries and all. Good to see him finish his career where he belongs.
