Bronson Arroyo, showing less swagger than he did in his cornrowed days with the Red Sox
Exactly one year ago, Bronson Arroyo started for the Reds and coughed up ten runs to Toronto in an inning-plus in a 14-1 loss. He was back on the hill at Rogers Centre tonight and fared considerably better than his last time out, but was still horrible. This time Arroyo lasted three-and-two-thirds and gave up seven runs (six earned), including five before he even recorded an out. The Jays got first inning homers from Aaron Hill, Vernon Wells and Adam Lind and cruised to an 8-2 win.
Scotty Richmond threw together another fine start, giving up just two hits and two runs over seven innings in improving to 6-4 on the season. My guy Russ Adams was also in the act, going 2-for-3 with a walk and a run in his second straight start.
Also, it’s appropriate to give a shoutout to the Jays Fan of the Game, who was seated a couple rows behind me in section 130C and felt it necessary to yell at Lind for failing to scale the wall to catch a home run that cleared by about five feet in the second inning. This, with the Jays up five runs thanks in part to Lind’s homer the previous inning. Thanks for making Toronto fans look bright, douchebag.
Anyway, back to the Jays and Reds: The teams wrap up the series Thursday night, with Brett Cecil looking to clinch the sweep against Cincinnati’s Johnny Cueto.
