Pops, shaking off a HARD foul from Brad Miller and subsequently making a poster
Suddenly, basketball is worth watching again in Toronto. At least when the Raptors are at home against sub-.500 teams, that is. They just happened to be in that position this afternoon and won their fourth straight, 134-129 in overtime against Chuck Swirsky and the Bulls. This does come as a bit of a surprise to me, though, because last I saw of this game Toronto was up by about 15 with under ten minutes to go. Guess it got a little interesting…
What I did see of this afternoon’s game was pretty exciting: Pops Mensah-Bonsu made Brad Miller his very own Frederic Weis, Jose Calderon played like the point guard I wish he could’ve been the entire season (while tying a franchise-record with 19 assists) and Andrea Bargnani continued his late season surge with 28 points. Oh yeah, proud father Chris Bosh chipped in 31 and 15 boards of his own.
The win leaves Toronto a tidy 28-45, but more importantly, just a game out of fourth place in the Atlantic Division. They’ll get a chance to sneak ahead of the Knicks — who actually don’t reek so much of Isiah Thomas anymore — when they go home-and-home next weekend. You can’t beat that babee!
